JOHANNESBURG – Government’s ten-point plan to address the energy crisis has fallen flat, says Senior Researcher at the Centre of Risk Analysis Chris Hattingh.

The plan was mooted by government in July last year.

Some of the details included buying power from independent producers, scrapping of licencing requirements for private energy projects and ‘importing’ electricity from Botswana and Zambia.

But there’s little consensus that it worked, since South Africa experienced it’s worst period of rolling blackouts last year.

Hattingh says there’s a disconnect between the plan and implementation on the ground.
