Two people have been arrested for allegedly robbing a 77-year-old pensioner of alcohol at a farm in the Free State.
Free State police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring said the duo had, on Tuesday, allegedly robbed the pensioner of alcohol at Christina Farm, but didn’t injure her.
Mophiring said the woman heard water running outside the house and when she went to inspect, she discovered it was the geyser. She then went back into the bedroom.
Mophiring said:
She came out of the bedroom again and was surprised by a suspect who was in possession of a knife, demanded firearms and cash. The suspect allegedly robbed her liquor bottles and fled the scene without any harm.
Mophiring said the alleged robber entered the house through a window. He said two suspects aged 22 were found in possession of liquor, a bag and a wallet that belonged to the woman.
A knife believed to have been used during the robbery was also found.
The two have been charged with house robbery and possession of a dangerous weapon and are expected to appear at the Harrismith Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
