Die Oos-Vrystaatse Maluti-A-Phofung munisipaliteit – met sy nuwe raad – het op 1 April vanjaar, die eerste dag van die nuwe boekjaar, nie minder nie as R54 miljoen aan Eskom oorbetaal. Nou sê Eskom in ‘n verklaring hy hoop dit is ‘n nuwe hoofstuk in die skuld-sage van dié munisipaliteit.
Dit is egter net die lopende rekening. Die totale uitstaande skuld wat die nuwe raad geërf het, beloop meer as R6,6 miljard.
Eskom sê verder die munisipaliteit het nie ‘n amptelike afbetalingsooreenkoms om die berg van skuld oor ‘n tydperk te delg nie. Maar die kragreus is hoopvol oor aanduidings vanaf die munisipaliteit dat daar ‘n nuwe invorderingsveldtog begin is wat reeds begin vrugte afwerp. Die munisipaliteit het aangedui dat daar reeds R134 miljoen ingevorder is die afgelope drie maande.
Eskom sê die munisipaliteit moet weer na die onderhandelingstafel terugkeer om ‘n afbetalingsooreenkoms te teken en aanhou om sy skuld te vereffen.
